How to get the cheapest car insurance

How to get the cheapest car insurance

If you’re struggling with the high cost of car insurance.  There are a number of things you can do to finding cheap car insurance. And in this article, we will guide you how to get the cheapest car insurance. Here are a few more things to watch out for:

1.      Insure both our car and home with the same company

We may be able to combine these types of insurance to receive cheap car insurance as well. This will save you even more money on a monthly basis. If we have multiple insurance policies through several different companies, then we may be able to consolidate them so we just have to deal with one insurance agent.
For example:
Many individuals have separate policies on their house, their car, and maybe recreational vehicle. All of these separate policies combained in one agent insurance, or choosing one company to handle all of our policies, it can eliminate a number of hassles. It can also lower the amount of money that we pay each month for insurance all around.

2.      Make larger payments on our premium

We have more control over the specific payment arrangements that are made with our agent.  We can actually choose to pay off our entire premium, either on a 6 month or yearly basis, and save quite a bit of money in the end.
Many people don’t realize this, but if we are making monthly payments to our insurance company then we’re not getting the cheap car insurance  that we should be. Don’t be afraid to ask our agent about paying in full. Of course paying in full isn’t always a viable option in every scenario, and some have no choice but to make monthly payments. Some even struggle to make that.

3.      Get Car Insurance Quotes Every Year

Quite often car insurance companies do offer attractive car insurance for new customers to get custom, and by getting several new quotes you can often find a better deal. It's good to remember that a single insurance company cannot be the cheapest option for everybody all of the time, and last years over-priced insurer might well be this years bargain.
Car insurance quotes are always changing, given time your circumstances will also change, so the most reliable way of finding a better offer is by applying for a range of new quotes.

4.      Apply online and get a ‘new’ quote from our existing insurer

For the case of insurance premiums are another story, even though auto insurance coverage may be standard in our province. Coverage from one company to the next can vary by hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
Only compare is the only way to make sure we are getting the best base price for our policy. Often applying to your existing insurer as a new customer produces a cheaper price than its renewal quote. Insurers put out more competitive prices to attract new customers so simply start again and you could be better off.

5.      If you have older car, think about dropping your collision coverage.

If your car is getting up there in age,
there are possible things that must be considered in this case:
you may want to think about dropping the collision coverage on your policy.
You need to think about this one though –
it's not always a clear-cut decision and a little difficult.
You need to weigh and think the cost of the collision coverage
with the value of your car and your chosen deductibles.
Example for this one case:
If you had a 20 years-old car that was worth about $2,000,
and your deductible was $2,000,
that collision coverage is not going to be worth a hoot.

6.      Don’t modify your car

A modification is anything that is not part of the standard vehicle specification including factory fitted optional extras, such as alloy wheels.
The more changes to your car, barring security ones,
the more changes you’ll be charged.
Always make sure you inform your insurer of any modifications to your car,
whether you made them or not, or it may invalidate your policy.

7.      Fit and Have an anti-theft device installed in your car

Is anti-theft device installed in your car? We recognise your car is less likely to be stolen, if you have an anti-theft device installed in your vehicle. Check to see if your company offers this: "Alarm or anti-theft discount" and consider if the price of the device is worth the added savings over the years.
If you already have an approved, factory-installed alarm in your car, we will take this into account when determining your rate.Because any extra security  fitting an alarm or immobilizer will help reduce the bill substantially.

8.      Park and Drive carefully

Theft and accidental damage add a bulk to insurance costs. If you leave your car in a garage or driveway it’s a big deterrent to theft and means accidental damage is less likely, resulting in a 3% - 7% drop in insurance costs. And than, park your vehicle in a place that has been determined by the traffic rules as well as to reduce the risk of theft and accidents but also can reduce the cost of your car insurance.
While speeding points remain on your licence for four years insurers check for convictions during the last five before they are removed from your record. Your driving record is one of the most influential factors in determining your insurance rate. Tickets affect your insurance rates for up to three years and accidents stay on your record for at least six! With a bad driving record, you can find yourself paying a lot of extra premium over the years.
One speeding conviction may only affect the price of cover by around 5% but any more will increase the price, with two offences costing around 20% more. Being caught with a mobile phone is more serious and can double your quote!

9.      Take a driver's training course

Licensed drivers who have completed an approved drivers training course in the last 3 years pay lower premiums. Safer drivers pay lower insurance rates. Driving classes are offered by a variety of organizations, both public and private. If there are any types of driving classes available through your insurance agent, you may want to consider attending and completing them in order to find cheap car insurance through an existing insurer.
If you are unaware of any classes being offered in your area ask your agent; they’ll be glad to help. Be aware that if you take a class and fail, however, you may end up with an increased insurance rate instead.
There are many different types of driving classes, but defensive driving classes are usually the most effective at reducing your car insurance premiums. Note that you will probably be required to show your agent proof of completion (usually in the form of a certificate) in order to be eligible for any benefits, so you won’t be able to fake it.

10.  Build No Claims Discount

In most cases having a no claims bonus is probably the most reliable way of reducing cost of car insurance. Therefore, build and try your no claims discount as soon as possible. It will mean you have to have your own car insurance policy before you can build your discount, but the sooner you build your discount the sooner you can start to enjoy the benefit it gives on your car insurance.
